Location: Majority of events will be held at APANO’s Orchards of 82nd Community Space (8188 SE Division St, Portland, OR 97206)

Schedule: Dependent on each specific event. Volunteers are welcome to sign up on a case-by-case basis as even opportunities are posted 

About 

APANO’s office in the Jade District includes a community space in which we hold workshops, trainings, fundraisers, and other events throughout the year! This building, which we call Orchards of 82nd (O82), is not only a center for organizing and cultural expression but also a resource for economic development and affordable housing on the top half of the building. O82 has become a critical asset for a historically underserved neighborhood, fostering community resilience through cultural and creative initiatives while addressing pressing housing needs.

Events held in this space range from educational workshops to cultural celebrations, making volunteering for this role unique, with each event hosting a new program or community group! There will be opportunities to sign up for recurring events, allowing you to create long-lasting community relationships with our guests and staff. 

For all events held in the O82 community space, tables and chairs are stored directly in the same room, allowing for quick set up and breakdown. Volunteers will not have to carry chairs or tables more than a few feet, and tables can be pushed across the room for easy set up. Food and drinks offered at all of our events will be available for volunteers.

Summary of Position

Event Support may include

• Greeting attendees warmly and fostering an inclusive, welcoming atmosphere
• Assisting with setup and teardown of tables, chairs, signage, and other event equipment
• Organizing supplies and materials for easy access throughout the event
• Supporting the guest check-in process by managing attendance using our simple and very easy to navigate software (laptop provided)
• Help maintain a clean and safe event area by picking up litter and managing waste stations
• Helping operate audio/visual elements such as PowerPoint slideshow presentations

Requirements

• Be able to lift 20 lbs
• Ability to support tasks for 20 minutes without a break
• Must have reliable transportation. APANO’s O82 space is in an extremely transit rich area, with direct stops from bus lines FX2 and 72
• Ability to support with set up/breakdown of event space

Time Commitments 

• Typical APANO events held in our community space range from 2-3 hours, shifts will be offered in these increments. 
• Volunteers are welcome to sign up on a case-by-case basis and are not required to attend each event.
