2017 Cultural Work Highlights
by Candace Kita
Cultural Work & Development Coordinator
We hosted our third year of our MicCheck! Cultural Event Series, including the first ever East Portland Arts & Literary Festival (EPALF): a full day of performances and art by artists of color. Over 400 people attended this event led by our very own Arts & Media Project (AMP).
We granted over $40,000 for creative placemaking projects in the Jade and Midway Districts, including dance performances at bus stops, a youth photo essay, Division St. illustrations and playing cards, and giant anti-displacement posters by 11 Dance Co, OPAL,. Yelena Roslaya, Hampton Rodriguez, Sabina Haque, and more!
We commissioned original artwork illustrating APANO's core values, launched our Cultural Work Roundup cultural events listserv, and even hired our first Cultural Work & Placekeeping Intern!
Here's to more in 2018!
