What is the role of the Jade District Steering Committee?

The Jade District Steering Committee will be a leadership group of 8-12 individuals, from all backgrounds, including residents (both renters and homeowners), businesses, and institutional partners, who are responsible for the guidance, strategic direction and evaluation of the various Jade District activities.

What are the responsibilities of the Jade District Steering Committee?

● Guide and provide direction for the work of the Jade District program staff

● Monitor and evaluate achievement of goals and objectives toward community vision and goals

● Participation on subcommittees to carry out work plan and ensure Jade District staff, committee members, and volunteers are meeting our goals and deliverables

● Review, approve, monitor application of the Tax Increment Finance (TIF) dollars on capital improvements and revenue share dollars in the neighborhood

  • Exploring and understanding the Jade District community vision and values
  • Working with people of diverse perspectives and experiences
  • Learning more about community and business groups, nonprofits, and local government
  • Translating vision into goals and actions
  • Energizing community members to participate in actualizing our community vision
  • Interest in issues that affect the local community and Portland’s future


How will members be selected?

Applications are accepted between April and early June for the following fiscal year, July 1 - June 30. The current Jade District Steering Committee and the APANO board will approve a recommended slate of candidates. Once approved, new Jade District Steering Committee members will begin service with on-boarding in June/July and committee meeting in July.

How much time will it take to be on the Jade District Steering Committee?

Members of the Steering Committee will be asked to make a significant time commitment, which shall include monthly meetings (2 hours every month, 24 hours annually - not including prep time), semi-annual Steering Committee retreats (up to 4 hours each, 8 hours annually), subcommittee work (average 1 hour per week), and any event activities (time commitment varies by activities) that you choose to join.
