APANO Strong Families Co-Chairs, Marilou Carrera and Kara Carmosino will be leading a workshop at this year's Statewide Convention, titled, "Strong Families: Framing Issues that Affect Our Bodies, Families and Communities."

Workshop Description
We deeply value our families who are at the center of our communities. Four out of five persons in the US live in families that are not reflected in the outdated definition of a mom at home and a dad at work. Learn about APANO’s Strong Families framework and how we’re organizing and building leadership at the intersection of gender, immigration and class, in order to shift the culture and shift power.

Saturday September 20th, 2014 All-Day
Warner Pacific College
2219 SE 68th Ave, Portland, OR 97215

We Are BRAVE
Since 2013, a new reproductive justice project built by people of color-led organizations and leaders of color in Oregon, has gathered together to share a strong passion for reproductive justice and work together for meaningful change. Our big, bold and BRAVE vision is a world where all people in all communities thrive — where they have the political, economic and social power and resources to make decisions for themselves and their families — without fear, discrimination, violence or shame.

Strong Families is the vision that every family will have the rights, recognition and resources it needs to thrive. As a a statewide grassroots organization that unites Asian and Pacific Islander communities to achieve social justice, APANO strongly believes and supports the Strong Families framework. Through our Strong Families Workgroup, members have been involved in the formation of this tool-kit, which is a series of discussion guides that facilitators and trainers can use to carry forward such BRAVE conversations.

We are BRAVE, Building Reproductive Autonomy and Voices for Equity, invites you to join us for an evening of celebration and community to mark the launch of our new publication, The BRAVE Tool-kit!
