YES FOR BEAVERTON SCHOOLS

Beaverton welcomes people from many cultures, including a growing Asian and Pacific Islander community. Our public schools are giving kids a great education, and education is a foundation for opportunity and prosperity. APANO endorses the Beaverton School Bond because our communities are better when our children and teachers learn in a safe and sound environment. The bond will fund critical repairs and ease overcrowding for the schools our kids deserve.

Beaverton is Oregon’s third-largest school district, educating nearly 40,000 students in 51 schools, with over 15% of the students identifying as API (2012 school year). 19 of Beaverton’s 51 schools are over capacity (i.e. overcrowded). And while the district works hard to keep them in good shape, it has been eight years since Beaverton passed its last facilities bond.

The 2014 Beaverton School Bond will address these and other urgent issues, including:

• Provide critical repairs to aging schools such as replacing deteriorating roofs and upgrading outdated heating and plumbing systems.

• Modernize and renovate existing schools and facilities to reduce overcrowding and improve learning environments.
• 
  
• 
  
• Replace four outdated schools, which means lower operating costs.
• 
  
• 
  
• Update learning equipment, technology, libraries, computer and science labs.
•

• Update school safety and security systems to improve student and staff safety.
•
