APANO Community Health Forum Event Details
Our health and well-being is at the center of APANO’s work for social justice. Through our community organizing, listening circles and leadership development, we have surfaced a range of experiences and ideas to improve health equity in all our communities. This has led to our successful initiatives to establish Data Equity for Race, Ethnicity, Language and Disability Status (HB 2134) and Cultural Competency Continuing Education for Health Professionals (HB 2611). Our vision is grounded in the social determinants of health, racial justice and a new understanding of intersectionality and gender justice we call “APANO Strong Families”. The APANO Strong Families lens is the vision that every family will have the rights, recognition, and resources it needs to thrive. APANO seeks to create a welcoming space in which to experience and highlight the messages, and beliefs of our communities and connect them to a deeper understanding of family, bodies, gender, and the policies that affect us.
We’re excited to be shifting the focus of our APANO Cultural Competency Forum we’ve hosted annually since 2009. For 2015 we will be hosting APANO Community Health Forum on April 4th at OHSU. Together we will be building from a stronger intersectional framework, that explores our multiple identities we are as Asians & Pacific Islanders. Our goal is to more deeply organize for the rights, recognition and resources for our families and communities to thrive. As is our practice, APANO Members have been envisioning and leading the planning for our APANO Community Health Forum.
Please join us on Saturday, April 4th from 8:30am - 4:00pm, for a day-long gathering with health equity activists, community organizers, students, APANO members, and allies, to discuss health equity, reproductive justice, and the current policy initiatives in this legislative session that can potentially impact our communities. We are excited to welcome Executive Director from Forward Together, Eveline Shen as our Keynote Speaker. Eveline will be providing the connection of the Strong Families national initiative to our current policy agenda. The forum is to provide a grounding space in preparation for the upcoming APANO Lobby Day on Monday, April 13.
