APANO Legislative Day: Keynote Speaker, Chi Nguyen-Ventura

Chi Nguyen-Ventura is a first-generation Vietnamese-American. Seeking political asylum, she and her family moved to Portland in 1990. They came empty-handed but, like many others, hearts full of passion for democracy and the will to work to earn a place in the land of opportunity.

Chi is a proud product of the Portland Public Schools. She graduated Valedictorian from Madison High School and completed her Honors Bachelor of Science from Oregon State University. She received her MBA with honors from Willamette University [as an Atkinson Scholar and Beta Gamma Sigma]. She is a small business owner of AutoMedic, Inc.

Chi is deeply interested cross-pollinating her private sector experience with public service in order to create shared values. She believes that all Oregonians should have equal access to health, education, and the opportunity to be a contributing member of society. That is why she is involved with numerous political and community organizations including Portland New Generations Rotary Club, Emerge Oregon alumnae, and APANO. She is passionate about giving back to Oregon, and building a strong Asian and Pacific Islander political presence statewide.

Becoming a mom tops the list of proudest moments. She and her wife Jessica welcomed into the world their son, Alexander James last September 4th.
