APANO CUF Call for Board Nominations

Greetings! The Nomination Committee at APANO Communities United Fund (CUF) is excited to announce a rolling call for board member candidates!

APANO Communities United Fund (CUF) is organized as a 501(c)3 tax exempt organization. Contributions to APANO Communities United Fund are tax-deductible.

WHY SERVE ON THE APANO CUF BOARD OF DIRECTORS?

Now is an exciting time to get involved! We are settling into our permanent shared leadership model with our Co-Executive Directors. We are continuing to learn as an organization what shared leadership is and how we cultivate it across the organization in a way that centers our values. We will reimagine our Theory of Change, and our Strategic Framework in the coming years. There are ample opportunities to learn about and get involved with the impactful work our staff members are leading. Read more about our programs here.

It is important to us to build strong and diverse boards to guide and make key organizational decisions based on their experiences and expertise in the work towards APANO’s vision of a just world where all communities who share our aspirations and struggles will have the power, resources, and voice to determine our own futures, and where we work in solidarity to drive political, social, economic, and cultural change.

This is also a great opportunity for you to support the community and gain leadership experience.

WHO WE HOPE TO REACH

We seek individuals who have or are currently engaged in our work, have a passion for APANO’s Mission, Vision, and Values, and will bring diverse perspectives and experiences to our boards.

For this cycle of recruitment, we are prioritizing the demographics and experiences below:

• Washington County resident
• Resident from outside of Multnomah County
• Identify as South Asian and/or Southeast Asian
• Identify as Pacific Islander
• Renter
• Age diversity (18-34 and older than 54)
• Education diversity (majority of board has advanced degrees)
• Experience in finance or nonprofit financial management, human resources, marketing, or public relations
• Knowledge of youth and family issues, education, transportation, environmental justice, healthcare
• Knowledge of political landscape in Oregon

WHAT IS EXPECTED OF BOARD MEMBERS?

APANO CUF - 501(c)3

Terms: 3 years, July - June

Meetings: First Saturday of every other month 9:00am-12:00pm, hybrid (~18 hours/year).

Retreats and events, and participation in fundraising efforts:

• 1-2 full day retreats/year
• Annual Voices of Change in May
• End of Year Celebration

Committee Participation - Potential Opportunities:

• Nominating Committee
• Finance Committee
• Development Committee
• Community/ Real Estate Development Committee (ad hoc)

WHAT WE’RE HOPING TO ACCOMPLISH TOGETHER

APANO’s goals during the years that this new board member’s term will overlap include:

• Distributed leadership and power practices (Strategic framework, Co-ED Team)
• Supporting staff wellness, community healing, and shared safety efforts
• APANO CUF CDC/Real Estate Development
• Strengthening political advocacy and capacity in local and statewide efforts

APPLICATION PROCESS

Process Step

• Submit the candidate interest form
• Nominating Committee reviews & responds to candidates
• One (1) hour virtual interviews with Committee composed of staff, board, and community members
• Nominating Committee board member selections are voted on by the APANO CUF Board of Directors.
• Nominating Committee communicates results to candidates
